The Experience of War

Perry Meridian High School           IDEA:  10th Grade US History and American Literature

Text Box: During the 2009-2010 school year, Perry Meridian High School’s sophomore IDEA U.S. History and American Literature class participated in a service learning project to honor area veterans.
Under the direction of Mrs. Jan Cooney and Miss Amanda Robinson, each tenth grader was responsible for researching two veterans. After searching their neighborhoods, churches, and our own high school, each student chose two veterans to interview in order to learn stories and gather photos.
After completion of interviews, students began the writing and editing process to produce a book. The book was printed at Triangle Printing Company and presented to the honored veterans at a special reception held at Perry Meridian High School in May. Students also taught fourth graders at Glenns Valley Elementary school as they shared what they had learned from the experience.
