Perry Meridian High School           IDEA:  10th Grade US History and American Literature

Text Box: In the new millennium, Perry Meridian experienced a growing population of students studying English as a Second language, so during the 2007-2008 school year, the class decided to research the lives of immigrants on the southside of Indianapolis.  Under the direction of Miss Amanda Robinson and Mrs. Nancy Johnson, the students conducted interviews with students, their parents, and some grandparents to gather information.  They also researched immigrants’ former homelands to compose Stirring the Melting Pot: Stories  of Immigrants to the Southside.
The book explored immigration from four areas of the world: Latin America, Europe,  Asia, and Africa and Senegal.  The books were presented to the interviewees and their families at a party at
